Journal entry 5

  • What influences your values about issues relating to your life?

Basically, the bible. It gives us direction and guides us through our life.

  • Do you ever compare images/values presented by the media to those of the bible? If so why? If not why not?

It depends on what they are presenting.

  • Has this project challenged you to examine your values? Why / Why not

Not really, because I dont think that a school project like this would challenge me to examine my values.

Journal entry 4

How do you feel the media portrays social justice issues?

With social justice issues, I believe that the media give some facts, but not the full story. I think the stories are often one sided and they may sound very true but not all the facts are there.

Has it been difficult to find articles on social justice issues why/why not?

No, actually it hasn’t been very hard to find articles on social justice issues because it is such a big thing in today’s society.

Do you think that the media operates from a moral framework? Give evidence by using your research.

I believe that the media aren’t always completely honest, but they do try to get a message across that may help many people, so i think they work around a moral framework.

Nike is a company that manufactures footwear and other sporting goods. It has its headquarters in the US but itts factories are located in other countries. The Nike Corporation does not actually make shoes. It designs and markets them. The manufacturing is contracted out to suppliers in Asia ( such as Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia). The workers are paid very low wages and work in relatively poor conditions- often referred to as sweatshops.

Journal entry 1

1. Describe TWO things that you have learnt during this lesson.

This lesson I have learnt how important group contracts are within groups. I have also learnt that the media may change stories around in ways that arent very obvious, but make the story more interesting and sometimes even biased.

2. Identify TWO areas you want to concentrate on during this project that you think need a greater improvement from the last project.

I think i need to work on my organisation in this project. Also i need to be more enthusiastic when i do my work.

3. Discuss TWO ways in which your group could resolve any disputes during this process.

One way is by communicating and finding out why the person is acting the way he is. After this if it doesnt work we may have to speak with the teachers and the student to find out other ways of resolving the problem.

Cst/ist journal 4 project 4

1) What form of medium (music, art or literature ) allows you to best connect with Jesus and Why

Music best allows me to connect with Jesus because the music soothes my soul allowing me and Jesus to connect.

2) Why has Jesus been portrayed in so many different ways throughout history?

Because nobody really knows what Jesus looks like, seeing as there were no cameras back in His time, so people had through the ages had to use their imagination to paint and draw pictures of Jesus.

3) How is Jesus portrayed at Parramatta Marist?

Jesus is portrayed as a man who loves everybody and who gives strength to all.

4) What artistic time period do you think best represents your image of Jesus and why?

I think the renaissance period best represents my image of Jesus because when i think of Jesus I always remember the Last Supper.

5) Identify one image of Jesus that appeals to you. What do you like about the representation?

One image of Jesus the appeals to me is the one with the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This image appeals to me because I believe it shows that Jesus’ Heart will never stop producing love for us even though Jesus was crowned with thorns and had his side pierced by a lance.

6) What factors currently shape your image of Jesus and why.

I think arworks shape my image of Jesus today because it is interesting to see the various arworks of Jesus and what they depict about him.

One problem which can occurr from students picking their own groups is, the students may pick their friends, knowing that they do not do much work, but still choosing them because they are friends.
